WHAT IS THIS WEBINAR?
The head start most families wish they'd had.
Most families start looking at U.S. college rowing a year later than they should. This webinar is the head start. In 45 minutes, the Crew Connection team walks you through how recruiting works, what coaches look for, and what to do this year so you're ready when the time comes, the webinar also has a live Q&A at the end.
You'll leave knowing:
What to focus on now, year by year, so you're not playing catch-up later
What you can do now before recruiting officially starts (June 15th after Sophomore year)
How to start your recruiting journey
How to contact coaches the right way, and the mistakes that get you ignored
Why the steps have to happen in the right order, and how to present yourself at each one
Why a fast 2k on its own won't get you recruited, and what coaches weigh up alongside it
Why a coach not replying doesn't always mean no
Why your grades count from Freshman year (Year 10), not just your final year
WHO IS IT FOR?
This webinar is for athletes, and their parents, who are:
Men aged 17 and under (UK Year 12 / U.S. juniors and younger).
Women aged 16 and under (UK Year 11 / J16 / U.S. sophomores and younger).
You don't need to be fast yet. If you're curious about rowing at a U.S College, you're in the right place.
Parents are welcome and encouraged to join. We'll cover where parents help most: setting priorities, talking honestly about budget and knowing when to step back and let your athlete lead.
Older than that? Join our Ask the Coaches Webinar series with U.S. college coaches, or better still, book a free intro call and we'll talk through how we can help.

WHY SEPARATE SESSIONS?
Men's and women's recruiting run on different clocks
The timelines, the number of places and the way funding works are different for men and women. Applying as an international student also works differently from applying as a domestic student inside the U.S. So we run separate sessions by gender and by location, and give you the advice that applies to you.
Women's Recruiting
Runs about a year earlier. Many official visits and commitments happen in junior year.
More programmes and bigger squads, thanks to the growth of women's rowing under Title IX.
Athletic scholarships at many Division I programmes.
Men's Recruiting
Recruiting runs over a longer window, from first contact at the end of sophomore year (Year 11) through to official visits in senior year. Coaches track your development for longer, so you need more touch points along the way.
Fewer programmes and smaller recruiting classes.
A smaller group of scholarship schools; the Ivy League offers need-based financial aid only.
